I love Fall! It is a time to reflect on all the wonderful bounty of our summer gardens, perhaps get a fall garden planted and to get ready for the Holidays. A few weekends ago we held our Fall Symposium at the Friday Center and harvested a lot of wonderful ideas and knowledge. It was great to see old friends and to make some new acquaintances and with our 2012 educational meetings behind us, it is time to look back on the successful meetings we have had and now begin looking forward to the GLORIOUS Spring and our Spring Symposium! We are fortunate, once again, to be headed to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, the dates of March 22-24, 2013.  We have so many good things planned for this meeting and no you will NOT want to miss it.

Back by popular demand, we will have Mani Montazemi, RDMS talking on some new topics and building on your favorites from this year’s Spring meeting. I don’t think we’ve ever had so many wonderful comments about a speaker as we did about Mani. Also; Chris Mann, RDMS, RDCS is coming back with some new Cardiac topics and Pam Burgess, BS, RDCS, RDMS, RVT will be doing an Echo Lab Accreditation workshop for those that are working on that. Our special guest will be Charlotte Henningsen, MS, RT(R), RDMS, RVT, FSDMS, the immediate past-president of the SDMS. She will share interesting case studies in OB, GYN, and Abdomen and will be our Keynote speaker on Point of Care Ultrasound, an exploding new area of ultrasound use. She will answer all of our questions about who is doing point of care ultrasound and how are we addressing competency in this new arena. Charlotte is an Asheville native and LOVES to join us for the NCUS meetings. There are lots of other great speakers joining us as well such as Dr. Carol Coulson from Asheville, Dr. Eric Dellinger from Greenville, SC, Dr. Lynn Anthony from Winston-Salem and Dr. Carlos Rodriguez from Winston-Salem as well; also, Jesse Thomas from Chapel Hill. We will talk about all the great topics being offered in the next Newsletter. Be looking for a brochure by the end of the year.

The Grove Park Inn has always held a special place in our tradition of alternating locations around the state and offers a meeting close to home for our western NC sonographers. It also gives me the opportunity to visit the mountains where I grew up. Our meeting will be in the Vanderbilt Wing of the hotel, as it has been in the past, and all the guest rooms there are being renovated and will be BRAND NEW when we arrive. The room rates are $149.00 a night, which may seem a bit high, but if you have stayed at a nice hotel recently, you will realize what a great rate that is for the Grove Park Inn. We negotiate our contracts and room rates 3 years in advance and regular rates are much higher, so don’t wait until the last minute and miss out on the room block rate.  We will also have our Quiz Bowl and Scientific Exhibit competition, so you students and educators, make plans now to participate!

One thing that won’t be the same this coming spring is that Dr. Kremkau will not be able to join us for a day of Physics due to other obligations that he was unhappy to inform us of. The good news in this is that Nate Pinkney has agreed to step in for Dr. Kremkau, and if you have ever heard Nate talk about Physics you will know how fortunate we were to get him to join us! Please visit www.groveparkinn.com to see what a treat we have in store for our next meeting! Wouldn’t a gift certificate to the Spa make for a nice Christmas present?
